Enough is Enough (2)

The time has come for the international community to rethink their dealings with the Islamic Republic and consider the plight of the people of Iran. A democratic, responsible, free-functioning Iran is far more beneficial to the peace and security of the Iranian people and the rest of the world than a regime that opens fire on its own citizens and arrests children from schools with impunity.

UN investigative and accountability mechanism

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres

Enough is Enough (2)Call for UN investigative and accountability mechanism

We ask you to urgently call for a UN investigative and accountability mechanism on the Islamic regime. Where the state is not protecting the lives and rights of its people it becomes incumbent on the international community to intervene and protect these rights.

If the international community had paid attention and responded to calls for an investigative and accountability mechanism in 2019 when we reported on the use of lethal force against unarmed demonstrators, we would not be reporting the deaths of children – again. In 2019, the world limited its response to the killings of 1500 Iranians and thousands in detention under inhumane conditions to mere words. This paved the way for the atrocities we see committed in Iran today. With China’s help, the Islamic regime has managed to arm itself with further technologies and equipment that enable the shutdown and extreme filtering of the internet to stop thefre flow of information and independent reporting of violent suppression of any free thought or actions.

Sir, it is not enough to sanction the enforcers, the legislators and ideologues who have held Iranians to random for 43 years and legislated to systematically discriminate against women and religious minorities in laws and in practice must be subject to unanimous targeted international sanctions. The international community must coordinate its actions so there is no room for any form of sanction evasion.

The first step is to urgently set up a UN investigative and accountability mechanism. The regime cannot get away with murdering Iranians again.

Sir, with all due respect enough is enough. In view of the actions of the regime against its own people, the world community needs to protect the lives and rights of the Iranian people.
