The crisis facing the world with overpopulation and
environmental pollution has concerned many governments. Iran is no different
particularly with the population explosion since the Revolution and the problems
that it has created and will go on to create if not addressed immediately.
This conference was the first held in Germany by ACI and it
was very well received.
The first day was in German and English. Environmental and
population experts presented their views on world issues and global policies on
the topics of discussion. The importance of all countries acting responsibly was
stressed.
The conference went on to discuss the particular problems
facing Iran such as, the destruction of over fifty percent of the forests in a
short time, and the pollution problems of the Caspian Sea.
The conference then moved on to issues concerning population
such as controlled population growth, population economy, education and health.
Also the special problems of Tehran as the over crowded
capital of Iran and its building policies were discussed. Concern was expressed
regarding the apparent lack of sound and basic planning for the city of Tehran.
The question and answer sections were amongst the most
informative with the presence of many international experts in the audience and
panel alike.
