Protest Letter to Ban Ki-moon

Tenth presidential elections

15 June 2009

"... ACI would like to register its protest and concern about

bullet

the use of excessive force against  unarmed people

bullet

lack of due process during arrests and detentions

bullet

the conditions under which the detainees are being kept

ACI would like to warn against

bullet

the possible use of live ammunition by the security forces leading to fatalities

bullet

the possible use of torture and degrading or inhumane treatment against those identified as organisers of the demonstrations

In the last few days it has become clear that the Islamic State is not accountable to its people. We therefore have no choice but to look for international support. As the highest authority and protector of the Nations’ rights, ACI respectfully asks you, Sir, to demand from the Islamic Republic

bullet

a full list of names of those arrested and detained,

bullet

their whereabouts,

bullet

the condition under which they are being detained,

bullet

an assurance that their rights to legal representation is being met..."
